2001 ADSA Conference

Trans-actions: Culture & Performance

University of New South Wales, Sydney

The conference theme is broadly interpreted, but offers of papers addressing issues such as the following are particularly welcome:

  • The performance/audience interaction
  • Intercultural, multi-cultural and post-colonial performance
  • Cross-gender performance
  • Adaptation and translation - from culture to culture, medium to medium, period to period, text to performance
  • New directions in theatre - minor theatres, future theatres, dance theatre, millennial anxieties, theatre at the edges, liminality, new rituals, faut-il bruler le West End?
  • Between technology and performance - screen and body, light, sound and cybernetics, musical performance in the digital age
  • Para-theatrical genres - street performance, community theatre, invisible theatre, outsider theatre
  • Sport and spectacle, the exhausted audience, post Olympic stress disorder or is there theatre after sport?

Papers should be no longer than twenty minutes in length.

Please send proposals giving the title of the work, a 200 - 300 word abstract and a brief note on the author/s.
