Tasmania

Tasmania is a beautiful blend of historic sites and structures with untouched natural wilderness. While our small island State is Australia's second oldest colony, our Aboriginal occupation dates back as far as the last ice age. 1.4 million hectares of national parks and World Heritage land mean that the wilderness is always close at hand and no point is more than 150 kilometres from the coast. Tasmania boasts numerous historic buildings including Australia's oldest bridge and Port Arthur, originally the colony's foremost convict settlement.

Tasmania's winter temperatures average 11.6 during the day and 4.3 during the evenings. The days are crisp and clear - but do bring some warm and waterproof clothing!

Launceston

The nation's third oldest city, founded in 1805, is nestled amidst the panoramic Tamar Valley in Tasmania's north. In the CBD, elegant Victorian streetscapes mix with new age culture. Some of Launceston's most prominent features include the rugged beauty of Cataract Gorge, the Queen Victoria Museum, and City Park, all within a short walk of the conference venue.

Inveresk Academy of Arts

The conference will be held in two buildings on the reclaimed Inveresk Railyards site: the stone building and its annex. This site, which has recently been redeveloped as a state-of-the-art Academy of Arts complex, includes the Performing Arts which houses a 150-seat theatre and other presentation spaces with full projection facilities. Computer facilities will be available on site and include Internet access.

It adjoins the Queen Victoria Art Gallery and offers its own café and Bistro. The bar at the Mallee Grill Hotel, adjacent to the venue, will be open each evening for conference delegates.

Travel

There are numerous ways to get to our beautiful State. You could bring your own car on the 'Spirit of Tasmania' ferry or the 'Devil Cat' for $80 return (conditions apply). If coming by sea, and without a vehicle, then both services connect with buses to Launceston CBD. On arrival at Launceston bus depot, a $10 taxi ride will get you to the Inveresk Railyards.

Hire cars are available through Thrifty Car Hire or you could catch one of the shuttle buses from the airport for no more than $10. Taxi will cost $25 - $30 from the Airport to Inveresk. For best price flights and accommodation contact Conference Design.
