The symposium will present academic papers, archival footage, new film and live performance

With a comprehensive range of perspectives and experiences on burlesque performance in Australia, the symposium will be recorded to provide us with material for a documentary as well as an oral history.

Invited performers include
  • Lola the Vamp, Sarah Lea Cheesecake, L'amour, Willow
  • Judith Lanigan, author of A True History of the Hula Hoop
  • historian Frank Van Straten OAM and
  • photographer and film-maker Leila Koren

Invited academics include
  • Professor Peta Tate, Professor of Theatre and Drama, La Trobe University
  • Dr Jonathan Bollen, Senior Lecturer in Drama, Flinders University
  • Dr Anne Pender, Senior Lecturer, English Communication and Theatre, University of New England and
  • Dr Philipa Rothfield, Senior Lecturer in Philosophy, La Trobe University
