Brief Description

The Department of Performance Studies enjoys a formidable international reputation for its strengths in interdisciplinary research and curriculum innovation. The secondment of a senior staff member to duties elsewhere in the Faculty of Arts opens up the opportunity for a suitably qualified scholar to be part of this rich and highly collegial teaching and research culture.

The successful applicant will contribute lectures and tutorials (and possibly coordinate units) in one or more of the following areas: performance analysis; performance theory (anthropological, phenomenological, sociological or other relevant theoretical traditions); cross-cultural performance; ethnographic and/or practice-based approaches to performance making, including rehearsal studies, improvisation and text-work, and supervision of production internships. (Applicants are invited to nominate specific strengths from among these broad topics. Sample unit of study outlines will be provided on request.) The position will also offer ample opportunity for the execution of a clearly defined research program, leading to peer-reviewed publications. 

The appointment will be made at Level A (Associate Lecturer) or Level B (Lecturer) depending on qualifications and experience. A doctoral degree (awarded or near completion) in Performance Studies or a related discipline is essential, as is prior teaching in a relevant tertiary environment.
