TWO DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS (SKO/post code 1017) IN IBSEN STUDIES
are available for work on the project Ibsen Between Cultures, Centre for Ibsen Studies, Faculty of Humanities, University of Oslo
Both PhD fellows will be part of an established international group of cooperating scholars working on the project Ibsen Between Cultures. The general aim of this project is to reach an understanding of Ibsen’s function as a global dramatist, i.e. how an Ibsen play is evaluated, and how the value of the plays is altered, shifted, transferred and appropriated, when they are localised in new cultural contexts.
Such an understanding can only be reached through an analysis of local, culturally specific arenas. Without conceiving of culture as national, the project will focus on contemporary Ibsen productions in China, India and Bangladesh, which all possess well-documented and solid Ibsen traditions.
The PhD fellows should, throughout their individual projects, investigate questions pertaining to the general project’s main ambition. Applicants should submit an individual project proposals (maximum 10 pages) that describe their projects and how they relate to the general framework of the project Ibsen Between Cultures.
Applicants are advised to make themselves familiar with the project Ibsen Between Cultures. For information about the project, see:
