Journal Launch Invitation: Simon Stone and Company, Contemporary Theatre Review 34.1

We are pleased to invite members to the launch of a special issue of Contemporary Theatre Review (34.1) dedicated the work of iconoclastic director Simon Stone and his network of collaborators. The event will be chaired by Dr Emma Cole (UQ) and will include remarks from Associate Professor Laura Ginters (Sydney), a paper from Dr Charlotte Farrell (author of the article ‘Playing Dead: The Post-Tragic Impact of Child Actors in Simon Stone’s (2020) and Anne-Louise Sarks and Kate Mulvany’s (2012) Medea’ from the special issue), and reflections from Professor Chris Hay (Flinders) and Associate Professor Margaret Hamilton (Wollongong) on the original objectives of the issue and the data work that underpins the final publication. A Zoom link will be available for those wishing to join but unable to do so in person.

The issue itself includes data visualisations of Stone’s artistic networks, essays on Stone’s Yerma and Medea, a piece by his German-language translator, a Documents section featuring companion interviews with Stone a decade apart, and several themed backpages submissions on Stone’s recent work at the National Theatre and Vienna’s Burgtheater, as well as about the AusStage Simon Stone Explorer.
