Call for ideas and abstracts for a new book on Back to Back Theatre

We are pleased to announce that we are planning a new book on Back to Back Theatre, edited by Helena Grehan, Yoni Prior and Peter Eckersall.  This book will be in a similar format to our volume, ‘We’re People Who Do Shows’ Back to Back Theatre: Performance, Politics, Visibility. (Performance Research Books, 2013) and will include essays, reviews, playscripts, and photographs.  The focus of the new book will be on the company’s work since 2013, including key theatre shows, the Ibsen and Golden Lion awards, and the works for screen.  The book is contracted with Bloomsbury for publication late in 2026.

As Editors we would love to hear from you if you have ideas for contributions in the form of scholarly essays, reviews, reflections, documentation, or other ideas.  We are especially interested to hear from people who might want to write on Back to Back’s works for screen and/or installations, on their work as innovative contemporary artists, and on their place in the national and international landscape.  We are seeking a variety of approaches and pieces that vary in length (up to around 5000 words for essays).

If you have any ideas or suggestions, please contact us at: h.grehan@ecu.edu.au and copy: yprior@unimelb.edu.au and peckersall@gc.cuny.edu.  Or feel free to contact us for more information.  If you are keen to have your ideas considered, please send us a short (approx. 300 word) abstract by 31 October, 2025.

With thanks and best wishes
Helena, Yoni, Peter
