In early November, ScenoLab Australia is holding a special Reading Group aimed at postgraduate students who are interested in or researching performance design and scenography.
ScenoLab is a national hub for Australian performance design research and education, with close ties to ADSA through the Scenography and Performance Design WG.

Please see the event information below. This session will be relaxed, conversational, and will explore a particular research topic and reading.
We are calling for interested attendees to complete this Doodle poll, to let us know when the best date and time is to meet! This session is aimed at postgraduate researchers, but open to all:

Tell us your best date/time here: https://doodle.com/group-poll/participate/bmXXv39a

When we have settled on a date, we will release the official invite the everyone!
Please share this invitation to any postgraduate students, colleagues, friends or interested researchers. We look forward to seeing you at this next event!

ScenoLab PG Reading Group: Unpacking the Creative Knowledges Framework for Scenographic Research
Info:
In this reading group, we will examine Batty & Zalipour’s “creative knowledges framework”, a novel approach for creative practice research distinguishing “research-enabled practice” and “practice-enabled knowledge.” We’ll explore how this distinction applies to scenographic research, where materiality, spatial understanding, and collaborative processes often challenge conventional research classifications.
For: Postgraduate researchers, early career academics, and practitioners interested in research methodology and knowledge-making in scenography and related creative fields.
Format: Panel discussion with two PhD researchers, followed by open group dialogue.
Preparation: Read Craig Batty & Arezou Zalipour (2024) “Research, practice, knowledge: introducing the creative knowledges enabling framework”. Available open access at https://doi.org/10.1080/25741136.2024.2384686.
Date/Time: Week of November 6th (*flexible on specific day/time to accommodate participants)
Session Host: Paula Martins is a PhD candidate in Performing Arts at the University of São Paulo, currently serving as Postgraduate Representative for ScenoLab. Her research explores the intersections of performance design and ecology. She is currently a Visiting Scholar at Griffith University's Queensland College of Art and Design, working with the Performance + Ecology Research Lab.
