The Dignity the Arts Research Network (DARN) is a network of artists, scholars and researchers that aims to advance knowledge about the intersections between dignity and the arts.

Our next Zui of the Dignity the Arts Research Network (DARN) will be held on Friday 27 March from 1-2pm.

This Zui which will feature a presentation from Associate Professor Krushil Watene (Ngāti Manu, Te Hikutu, Ngāti Whātua ō Orākei, me Tonga).
The title of this Zui’s presentation is 'Creative enactments of Kaitiakitanga: Remembering, Revitalising, and Restorying our socio-ecological relationships’.

Ngāti Manu is a coastal community in the Bay of Islands in the North of Aotearoa. The reclamation of Ngāti Manu mātauranga remains an issue of intergenerational justice. We take our mātauranga to be the heart of our community, collecting across the generations through such things as language, ceremony, teachings, and creative practices. In this presentation, I share some of the ways in which Ngāti Manu mātauranga is being reclaimed through traditional and contemporary creative practice - thereby highlighting the importance of traditional and contemporary artforms for knowledge-making, storytelling, and community rebuilding.

Krushil Watene (He uri nō Ngāti Manu, Te Hikutu, Ngāti Whātua ō Orākei, me Tonga). Krushil is part of the Philosophy whānau at Waipapa Taumata Rau. She is interested in diverse philosophical traditions, undertakes collaborative transdisciplinary research, and recognises the critical role of local communities for global change. While Krushil collaborates extensively with marae communities in Northland, she also engages in local policy and global-agenda setting – for example, through her ongoing work on the UN’s Human Development Reports, International Science Council,  and Earth Commission.

If you would like to attend the Zui, please email Rand Hazou and he can forward the Zoom details.
