Veronica Kelly Prize

Applications are now open for the Veronica Kelly Prize – essay competition. Closing April 30 2025

As signalled at the Postgraduate Day in December 2024, we are holding a 3000-word essay competition in lieu of the Veronica Kelly prize for 2024 (the prize will once again be run at the Wellington conference in 2025 in its standard format).

This award is designed to recognise research excellence in postgraduate studies.

We strongly encourage Supervisors to pass this prize opportunity onto their research students.

To be eligible for the award candidates must:
•    submit a 3000-word research essay and application cover sheet to prizes@adsa.edu.au by 30 April 2025.
•    be a currently enrolled postgraduate student;
•    be a current student member of ADSA at the time of application;
•    not hold a tenured (that is ongoing or continuing contract) position at a university or other tertiary institution; and
•    not have previously been awarded the prize.

The criteria for shortlisting and selecting the winning essay are:
•    the essay presents a clear, complete, well-researched argument about an element of drama, theatre or performance studies that is of interest to the field at large, and original or innovative in its content or its conceptualisation
•    the essay is suitable for publication in ADS within 3 months of presentation

The Prize consists of $500 from ADSA and mentoring towards the publication of the winning paper in Australasian Drama Studies in the open volume of 2026. The prize will be announced by 30 June 2025.
